Holiday Poppers

Add a pop of excitement to your holiday and New Year’s Eve with these easy homemade party poppers.

Materials:

  • Empty 6.75 oz Juicy Juice boxes
  • Scissors
  • 2x rolls of wrapping paper
  • 2x sheets of sturdy white paper (preferably cardstock)
  • Hot glue gun (for grown-ups only)
  • Small gifts & toys to place inside
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbon
  • Gift labels
  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Optional: Cracker snaps (available from online retailers)

Step 1:

First, completely empty a 6.75-ounce Juicy Juice box. Once it’s empty, have an adult cut off both ends of the juice box and wipe off any juice that might remain inside and add the small gift or treat to the empty Juicy Juice cylinder.

Step 2:

Cut one piece of wrapping paper to measure 4.75” wide and 7.5” high. Then, carefully hot glue the wrapping paper around your empty Juicy Juice box, leaving ends open.

Step 3:

Grab your second roll of wrapping paper and cut another piece to measure 15” wide and 7.5” high. If you’d like to add a popper, take some time now to hot glue a cracker snap about an inch from the top side, be careful not to hot glue the middle of the cracker or it won’t pop.

Step 4:

Place your wrapped Juicy Juice box horizontally in the middle of this larger square of wrapping paper. Bring the top edge of the wrapping paper over the top of the box and hot glue paper to the middle of the box to secure. Make sure to roll the wrapping paper around the box.

Step 5:

To support and create the shape for the ends of the popper, take two pieces of the white cardstock paper and cut 3″ wide and 7.5″ high. Roll one piece into a cylinder that’s slightly smaller in diameter than the end of the popper. Insert into the ends until even with the outer edge of the wrapping paper. Push the cardstock cylinder out to hold the shape inside the wrapping paper and hot glue in place. If you’ve attached the cracker snap, be careful not to cover it.

Repeat this step with the other piece of paper and slide it into the opposite side.

Step 6:

Using your thumb and forefinger, crimp (gather) one end of the popper between the juice box and the cylinder end. Securely tie a ribbon around this end of the popper. Then place your small gifts and toys inside tissue paper and insert them into the other end, pushing into the middle of the Juicy Juice box. Again, use your thumb and forefinger to gather the second end, crimping between juice box and cylinder end. Tie ribbon around it to secure.

Step 7:

For a finishing (and personalized) touch, add a name tag. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 for as many holiday poppers as you want. When you’re ready to celebrate, have your little ones firmly grasp both ends and pull to reveal the fun surprises inside!
